Baptism

As you consider baptism, remember that eternal life and forgiveness of sins comes only through the Lord Jesus Christ and His death on the cross. Forgiveness of sins is based on faith alone.

  • “For God so loved the world that he gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
  • “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.” John 3:36
  • “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:13
  • “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
  • “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” Ephesians 2:8-9
  • “After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘this is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great glory.” Matthew 3:16-17

Why be Baptised?

1. It illustrates Christ’s burial and resurrection. 

  • “Christ died for our sins… He was buried… and He rose again.” –I Cor. 15:3-4
  • “For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ.” –Col. 2:12

2.It illustrates my new life as a Christian.

  • “When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. The old life has passed away and a new life has begun!” –2 Cor. 5:17
  • “By our baptism then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead… so also we may live a new life!” –Rom. 6:4

Baptism does’t make you a believer – it shows that you already believe. Baptism does not “save” you, only your faith in Christ does that. Baptism is like a wedding ring – it´s the outward symbol of the commitment you make in your heart.

  • “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith… it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.” –Ephesians 2:8,9
